The Internet of Things (or IOT) allows for various devices to connect to the internet or ‘the cloud’. Devices can include your laptop, smartphone, Amazon’s Alexa or any other smart tech you may own. A large set of devices were traditionally siloed systems like for instance your kettle but due to the advent of IOT now have the ability to communicate with the outside world, this might mean that you don’t have to keep track of your fridge as it might be able to replenish itself due to this added capability.

IOT can also enable part of the processing that was traditionally happening on a device itself, now occur in ‘the cloud’ or on the internet. As a result of this technology, devices like the smartphone have continued to expand their functionality but remain compact.
